Plume Celosia | Celosia plumosa | Feather Cockscomb | Celosia

Plume Celosia is an upright, heat‑loving annual (grown as a tender perennial in tropical climates) prized for its vibrant, feathery plumes that resemble brightly colored flames in shades of red, orange, yellow, and pink. This showy plant is known for its sturdy branching habit, exceptional heat tolerance, and nonstop flowering from early summer until frost. Its bright blossoms draw butterflies and bees, making it a standout choice for sunny borders, mixed containers, mass plantings, and fresh or dried cut flower arrangements. With its striking vertical form and reliable performance in hot, humid conditions, Plume Celosia offers bold, fiery color with minimal maintenance.

Growing Plume Celosia

Light: Full sun; thrives in heat and requires at least six hours of direct sunlight to produce the most brilliant color and sturdy stems.

Soil: Rich, well‑drained soil; prefers soils amended with organic matter but will tolerate a variety of soil types as long as drainage is excellent.

Water: Moderate; water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during extreme heat, but avoid waterlogged conditions to prevent root rot.

Maintenance: Deadheading spent plumes will encourage lateral branching and a continuous flush of new blooms.

Wildlife: Attractive to butterflies, bees, and other pollinators; generally deer‑resistant.

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 10–11; widely grown as a warm‑season summer annual in all other regions.
