Fairy Queen Mealycup Sage | Salvia farinacea ‘Fairy Queen’ | Mealycup Sage ‘Fairy Queen’ | Salvia ‘Fairy Queen’

Fairy Queen Mealycup Sage is a striking, sun-loving tender perennial (grown as an annual in cooler climates) prized for its captivating bicolored blooms featuring deep violet-blue flowers with a distinctive, contrasting white spot on each lower lip. This award-winning selection from the Salvia family is known for its compact, well-branched habit, outstanding heat and drought tolerance, and nonstop flowering from early summer until frost. Its nectar-rich blossoms rise on sturdy, dark stems above aromatic, silvery-green foliage, drawing hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Making a standout choice for pollinator gardens, mixed containers, and sunny landscape borders, Fairy Queen offers enchanting, textured beauty and reliable performance in hot, dry conditions with minimal maintenance.

Growing Fairy Queen Mealycup Sage

Light: Full sun; requires direct sunlight to produce the most abundant blooms and maintain a sturdy, upright habit.

Soil: Average, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to various soil types, but will not tolerate soggy, waterlogged conditions.

Water: Moderate; water regularly until established, after which it becomes highly drought-tolerant, requiring supplemental watering only during prolonged dry spells. Let the soil surface dry out between waterings.

Maintenance: Deadheading spent flower spikes encourages continuous, prolific blooming and maintains a tidy appearance. A mid-season shear can rejuvenate the plant and encourage a fresh flush of foliage and flowers.

Wildlife: Highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees; generally resistant to deer and rabbits due to its strongly aromatic leaves.

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 8–10; grown as an annual in cooler regions.
