Victoria Blue Sage | Salvia farinacea ‘Victoria Blue’ | Mealycup Sage ‘Victoria Blue’ | Salvia ‘Victoria Blue’
Victoria Blue Salvia is a classic, sun-loving tender perennial (grown as an annual in cooler climates) prized for its dense, upright spikes of deep, intense violet-blue flowers that sit elegantly above lush, aromatic, silvery-green foliage. This award-winning and time-tested selection from the Salvia family is known for its uniform, well-branched habit, outstanding heat and drought tolerance, and nonstop flowering from early summer until frost. Its nectar-rich blossoms draw hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, making it a standout choice for pollinator gardens, mixed containers, mass plantings, and sunny landscape borders. With its sturdy form and reliable performance in hot, dry conditions, Victoria Blue offers striking vertical color and rich texture with minimal maintenance.
Growing Victoria Blue Salvia
Light: Full sun; requires direct sunlight to produce the most abundant blooms and maintain a sturdy, upright habit.
Soil: Average, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to various soil types, but will not tolerate soggy, waterlogged conditions.
Water: Moderate; water regularly until established, after which it becomes highly drought-tolerant, requiring supplemental watering only during prolonged dry spells. Let the soil surface dry out between waterings.
Maintenance: Deadheading spent flower spikes encourages continuous, prolific blooming and maintains a tidy appearance. A mid-season shear can rejuvenate the plant and encourage a fresh flush of foliage and flowers.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees; generally resistant to deer and rabbits due to its strongly aromatic leaves.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 8–10; grown as an annual in cooler regions.
