Marinka Fuchsia | Fuchsia ‘Marinka’ | Trailing Fuchsia ‘Marinka’ | Fuchsia ‘Red Marinka’
Marinka Fuchsia is a classic, highly sought-after trailing perennial (widely grown as an annual in cooler climates) prized for its spectacular, cascading habit and prolific profusion of nodding, brilliantly colored blooms featuring glowing rosy-red sepals and rich crimson-red corollas. This vigorous, heavy-blooming selection is known for its graceful, weeping form, making it a spectacular, quintessential spiller for hanging baskets, elevated mixed patio containers, and shaded window boxes. Its nectar-rich blossoms are an absolute magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies, delivering vibrant, non-stop color from early summer until the first frost. With its lush, trailing form and reliable performance in shady or dappled light conditions, Marinka offers a sophisticated, dramatic aesthetic with straightforward care.
Growing Marinka Fuchsia
Light: Partial sun to dappled shade; thrives with gentle morning sunlight but requires strict protection from harsh, direct afternoon heat, which can easily scorch its leaves and cause flower drop.
Soil: Rich, well-drained soil; prefers a highly organic, loamy mix amended with compost to retain moisture while ensuring excellent aeration and drainage.
Water: Moderate to high; water regularly to keep the soil consistently and evenly moist, but never soggy. Fuchsias are highly sensitive to drought and will drop their blooms and foliage if the soil is allowed to dry out completely.
Maintenance: Deadhead spent flowers and carefully remove the developing seed pods (berries) to encourage a continuous, prolific flush of new blooms throughout the summer. Pinching back the growing tips early in the season before it begins to heavily trail will promote a fuller, bushier shape at the crown.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies; generally deer-resistant.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 9–11; widely grown as a spectacular summer annual in cooler regions or overwintered indoors as a beautiful trailing house plant.
