Buzz Hot Raspberry Butterfly Bush | Buddleja davidii ‘Buzz Hot Raspberry’ | Dwarf Butterfly Bush ‘Buzz Hot Raspberry’ | Buddleia ‘Buzz Hot Raspberry’
Buzz Hot Raspberry Butterfly Bush is a vibrant, sun-loving deciduous shrub prized for its spectacular, continuous profusion of densely packed, vibrant hot magenta-pink flower spikes that bloom from early summer all the way until the first frost. This exceptionally tough, heat-tolerant selection is known for its naturally compact, dwarf habit—typically reaching only a few feet tall—and attractive silvery-green foliage, making it a perfect fit for smaller landscapes where traditional butterfly bushes would become unruly. Its intensely fragrant, nectar-rich blossoms are an absolute magnet for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, making it a spectacular, low-maintenance thriller for sunny landscape borders, mixed patio containers, and wildlife gardens. With its bold, jewel-toned color and reliable performance through challenging conditions, Buzz Hot Raspberry offers an extraordinary display of vibrant summer blooms and tidy structure with exceptionally straightforward care.
Growing Buzz Hot Raspberry Butterfly Bush
Light: Full sun; thrives in bright, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) to produce the most abundant blooms, the strongest stems, and maintain a tight, compact form. Too much shade will cause the branches to become leggy and significantly reduce flowering.
Soil: Light, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to poor, rocky, or average soils as long as drainage is excellent. It is extremely susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged clay, especially during the cold, wet winter months.
Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then allow the top few inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once mature and strongly dislikes consistently wet feet.
Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Deadhead spent flower spikes regularly to encourage a continuous, prolific second flush of blooms. Prune hard in late winter or early spring (cutting the plant back to about 10 to 12 inches tall) to maintain its naturally compact size and encourage vigorous new flowering wood, as it blooms on new growth.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds; naturally deer- and rabbit-resistant.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 5–9; exceptionally cold-hardy and reliable across a wide range of climates provided it has excellent winter drainage.
