Pinguicula means "little greasy one" in Latin. They are commonly called butterworts or "pings" by some growers. They grow throughout the Northern Hemisphere, but a vast majority is concentrated in México, with some species located in South America.
Pinguicula's leaves are coated in microscopic glandular hair that secrete sticky mucilage. These glands have the ability to capture sunlight, giving the leaves a glittering, shinning appearance that may attract insects. Most of Pinguicula's victims are small gnats, fruit-flies, or springtails. As soon as butterworts catch their prey, their sessile glands start to release digestive enzymes to dissolve their victims, then the sessile glands reabsorb this fluid rich in nutrients.
In this kit you'll get a porous rock (not the exact same that is in the picture), soil mix, a heavy-duty saucer (10" in diameter), and some SMALL Butterworts randomly selected. Make sure you select the right Ping's quantity option. We have four options:
Option 1 (Rock kit, No plants): You'll get a random porous rock, soil mix, and a 10" heavy-duty saucer (NO PLANTS included in this option, please read before ordering).
Option 2 is the rock kit + 5 small pings.
Option 3 is the rock kit + 10 small pings.
Option 4 is the rock kit + 15 small pings.
Due to the size and weight of these kits, they have to ship in a Large flat rate box. Unless you live in California, please select that option at check out.
This is a perfect gift for someone you care or to start your very own Pinguicula collection. This bundle is NOT customizable. (No special requests, no exceptions)
Please note that some Butterworts are greener than others but will turn reddish/pink under bright/intense full spectrum lights. They might also be a bit different in shape and size.
The plants are about 0.5 inches across (about the size of a dime), sometimes bigger, but expect 0.5" plants in this rock kit.
By purchasing this pack you agree with the terms and acknowledge that have read the plants' description about the size and the different options presented to you.
Please read: In this pack, you'll get 10 mystery SMALL butterworts (This bundle does NOT allow you to select your own plants, all plants will be randomly selected, no exceptions). Butterworts are about 0.5 in diameter, these are small sets, please read before ordering. If you desire an adult/mature Pinguicula, please buy the plants individually.
Carnivorous Plant Butterworts- The plants in the pictures are representative only. You will also get plants that are probably not in the pictures. [Plants are not flowering at the moment]
The plants are shipped bare root in a plastic container to protect the plants. We ship the plants on Monday and Wednesday to avoid the weekend cutoff.
These plants are about 0.4-0.6, depending on the Pinguicula.

It is strongly recommended to get a heating pack during the winter to protect your plant from low temperatures, we are not responsible for dead plants that did not have a heating pack during transit. 1 heating pack per order is enough.

Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.7 / 5 from 497 reviews.
I am so very impressed with this company! I had bought one of the mini banana trees first, which started dying right after I got it. After contacting the company, they agreed to give me a credit, with which I bought these two honeysuckle plants. Please excuse the weeds & bad fencing. Hopefully these little plants will grow up & cover the fence. I will be working on weeding and continuing to build a flower bed at the base of the fence. Thank you Blossomdale! I look forward to buying more plants in the future.

The fig trees arrived today in small pots very well packed. I removed them and watered them. I will let them "rest" for 4 to 5 days before I repot them and prepare them for winter, inside. Very pleased with these trees. After getting other sellers rotten packing jobs this was a real treat. I may buy more in the spring of 2027.
Store owner replied: Thank you for your kind review, Donald! We're delighted your fig trees arrived well-packed and in good condition. We appreciate your support and hope they thrive through the winter! :)
Packed so well! I was surprised how many flowers my orange ones had! Will definitely buy from them again! My original ordered flowers were out of stock and I received an email about replacements. I love them!

Store owner replied: Thank you for your feedback, Rosetta! We're glad to hear your plant arrived healthy and beautiful. We appreciate your feedback about the size and hope your plant grows and flourishes! 😊
I was very impressed with how well my 18 little lantanas were packed. All looked healthy and I planted them yesterday. It was a little difficult unpacking them but that’s the price I paid for having you pack them so well. I was a little worried when I saw UPS coming to the door with the box slung over the driver’s shoulder despite the fact that the box was marked with an ⬆️ and it said live plants. But all is well. Now if I can just keep them alive.
Store owner replied: Thank you for your review, Beth! We're glad your plant arrived quickly and is doing much better. We appreciate you choosing Blossomdale! 😊
Lovely little guy-- impossible to find coral honeysuckle at my local nursery for whatever reason. I really appreciate that the Blossomdale staff kept it and nurtured it a little longer so it would be more robust for the trip. Can't wait to put it in the ground and watch it thrive :-) Will order from them again.
The mahoi double banana tree delivered on time, perfectly protected from shipping damage, and ready to plant. Love my new banana tree!
It was my very first plant I order online so I wasn’t sure what to expect but when it got here and in one piece and as long as it is I was shocked but very HAPPY.
It's doing really well. I will be transferring it to a bigger pot probably by the weekend. I wish I had a little more instructions on how to care for this variety, and what to do in the fall.
Plants arrived fine.. got them planted. Now i will let you know next spring. If they survive and grow back.. So far, i am ok with them
Erigeron Karvinskianus Fleabane ‘Santa Barbara/Mexican Daisy'
Just waiting for when they get big and tall and start producing bananas.
Plant arrived quickly and came in good shape!
Package came delivered just like it said it would I pulled it out it looked good. I put it in some water for about a half hour and put it in my 30 gallon tub and I got three things to go with it.
Banana tree came nice and healthy and ready to go!

Haven’t transplanted yet, but it’s a beautiful plant. We are gifting it to a friend that moved…Friendship Plant is very appropriate!
I love it
Truly tiny is still tiny but healthy!
It seems to be doing well but could have been packed better.
Blossom Dale did a wonderful job with packaging and Sedum Autumn Joy plants arrived in great condition and are thriving. So far so good.
The milkweed is not doing well...
Very healthy cutting. Followed the instructions and let it get acclimated to its new surroundings for a couple of weeks before repotting. Would not hesitate to purchase from this business again 😃
Plants arrived in great condition. This plant has only been in the ground about 10 days and is growing a lot. The plant cage is 12” tall so it’s doing well. I put guards around my new plants for a little while because I have bunnies who love tender young leaves.
Got this for my wife’s birthday. Plan to pot it soon.
I got 2 mystery plants (one indoor and one outdoor). The indoor was a pilea and the outdoor plant was a white blackberry. White blackberry was dramatic, but it’s making a comeback and the pilea is doing great!
Came in well packed and the plant was alive and healthy!
Even though the newest leaf was broken off it seems to be doing well
My little banana arrived happy and healthy!
The plant arrived well packaged with instructions on how to get started. It had been doing really well and has been growing like a weed!
It is just putting roots down now.
Received in great condition, transplanted just before heavy rain and its thriving
Just a little shock put her in a fabric pot on the back porch full sun should be happy thank you for the lovely plant
Fair price good looking plant can’t wait for it to get bigger!
