Stingray Alocasia | Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Stingray’ | Elephant Ear ‘Stingray’ | Alocasia ‘Stingray’

Stingray Alocasia is a striking, exotic tropical perennial (widely grown as a house plant in cooler climates) prized for its uniquely shaped, emerald-green leaves that remarkably resemble a swimming stingray, complete with ribbed, wing-like lobes and a long, sweeping tail. This highly sought‑after selection is known for its upright, architectural habit and beautifully patterned, zebra-striped stems. Its eye-catching, sculptural foliage makes it a standout choice for bright sunrooms, warm living spaces, and modern indoor plant collections. With its bold, structural form and preference for warm, humid conditions, Stingray Alocasia offers a remarkable, aquatic-inspired aesthetic with straightforward care.

Growing Stingray Alocasia

Light: Bright, indirect light; thrives in well‑lit indoor spaces but requires protection from harsh, direct sunlight which can scorch its distinctively shaped leaves.

Soil: Rich, chunky, well‑drained aroid potting mix; prefers a coarse blend amended with orchid bark and perlite to ensure excellent aeration and prevent root rot.

Water: Moderate; water thoroughly when the top two inches of soil feel dry. It requires high ambient humidity to keep its unique leaves supple and healthy, but avoid letting the pot sit in standing water.

Maintenance: Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their glossy appearance. A humidifier or pebble tray is highly recommended to provide the extra moisture in the air it craves. Regular feeding with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season will support its vigorous growth.

Wildlife: Keep away from pets; toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Primarily grown for its spectacular decorative foliage.

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 10–11; widely grown as a year‑round house plant in cooler regions.
