Musa ‘Double’ | Double Mahoi Banana | Dwarf Double Mahoi | Musa acuminata ‘Double’

Musa ‘Double’ (Syn. Mahoi) is a compact, fruiting banana renowned for its unusual ability to produce two full bunches of sweet, dessert-quality bananas on a single stem. This dwarf variety typically reaches about 5–7 feet tall, making it an excellent choice for small gardens, patios, or container growing in warm climates. Its lush, broad green leaves lend an instant tropical feel while the heavy, dual clusters of bananas provide both ornamental interest and generous harvests.

Growing Musa ‘Double’ (Mahoi)

  • Light: Prefers full sun but tolerates light partial shade, especially in very hot climates.
  • Soil: Rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter; slightly acidic to neutral works best.
  • Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged; deep, regular watering during the growing season is essential for strong growth and good fruiting.
  • Maintenance: Feed regularly with a balanced or high-potassium fertilizer; remove spent leaves and cut back the fruiting pseudostem after harvest to make room for new pups.
  • Wildlife: Flowers and fruit can attract pollinators and fruit-eating wildlife; the plant itself is self-fertile and does not require a second banana for fruit set.
  • Hardiness: Best in USDA zones 9–11; in cooler regions, grow in large containers and overwinter indoors or in a greenhouse, protecting from frost and cold winds.

Shipping Info
