Growing Violette de Bordeaux Fig

Light: Full sun; thrives in intense, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) which is absolutely required to produce the most abundant, sweetest fruit and maintain a tight, sturdy branching form.

Soil: Rich, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to a variety of soils as long as drainage is excellent. It is extremely susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged clay, especially during the cold, wet winter months.

Water: Moderate; water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist during the growing and fruiting season, but allow the top few inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is remarkably drought-tolerant once mature but performs best with consistent moisture when producing fruit.

Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Prune lightly in late winter during dormancy to maintain its naturally compact shape, improve airflow, and encourage vigorous new fruiting wood. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to support its lush foliage and prolific fruit production.
