Pinguicula gypsicola is a perennial heterophyllous species, which produces non -carnivorous winter and carnivorous summer leaves. Pinguicula gypsicola was first discovered in an area northwest of San Luis Potosí, Mex. The epithet gypsicola is derived from the Latin gypsum (mineral composed of calcium sulphate dihydrate) and colere (inhabit), as a reference for the substrate preference.
