Chinese Money Plant | Pilea peperomioides | UFO Plant | Pancake Plant

Chinese Money Plant is a compact, easy‑to‑care‑for tropical perennial (widely grown as a house plant in cooler climates) prized for its unique, round, coin‑like bright green leaves that seemingly float on delicate stems. This distinctive selection is known for its upright, slightly cascading habit, whimsical appearance, and the charming "pups" (baby plants) it produces from its root system. Its eye‑catching foliage makes it a standout choice for bright windowsills, desktops, plant stands, and modern indoor plant collections. With its structural form and reliable performance in a variety of indoor conditions, the Chinese Money Plant offers playful texture and vibrant greenery with minimal maintenance.

Growing Chinese Money Plant

Light: Bright, indirect light; thrives in well‑lit indoor spaces but requires protection from harsh, direct sunlight which can scorch its leaves. Rotate the plant weekly to keep the central stem growing straight.

Soil: Rich, well‑drained potting mix; prefers a light, airy soil amended with perlite or pumice to ensure excellent drainage.

Water: Moderate; water thoroughly when the top two inches of soil feel dry. The leaves may droop slightly when it is time to water, but avoid letting the pot sit in standing water to prevent root rot.

Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust. Easily propagate by gently separating the small "pups" that sprout up from the soil once they have developed their own roots.

Wildlife: Non-toxic and completely pet‑friendly for cats and dogs; primarily grown for its decorative foliage.

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 10–11; widely grown as a year‑round house plant in cooler regions.
