Semi Dwarf Bing Cherry Tree on Maxma 14® Brokforest cv (Prunus avium ‘Bing’) is the most famous and widely grown sweet cherry, treasured for its large, deep red to mahogany fruit, firm texture, and rich, sweet flavor. Perfect for fresh eating, Bing is also excellent for preserves, desserts, and freezing. Its glossy fruit and dependable production have made it a favorite in both commercial orchards and backyard plantings. Grafted onto Maxma 14® rootstock, this tree offers a balance of vigor and manageability, with improved disease tolerance, productive yields, and adaptability across diverse soils.
Growing Semi Dwarf Bing Cherry Tree on Maxma 14®
Light: Requires full sun for optimal bloom, fruit set, and sweetness.
Soil: Performs best in fertile, well-drained soil; amend with compost or organic matter for improved nutrition and drainage.
Water: Provide deep, infrequent watering during the growing season, particularly during fruit development. Avoid excess watering, which can lead to fruit splitting.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced orchard fertilizer in early spring; an additional midsummer feeding supports vigorous growth and strong crops.
Pollination: Not self-fertile; requires a compatible pollinator such as Van, Rainier, or Stella for reliable fruit set.
Maintenance: Prune in late winter to shape the tree, promote airflow, and encourage productive new wood. Thin fruit if needed to improve size and quality.
Hardiness: Best grown in USDA zones 5–9. Ripens in early to mid-summer and is prized for its superb flavor and consistent quality.
