Semi Dwarf Flavor Grenade Pluot Tree on Citation (Prunus hybrid ‘Flavor Grenade’) is a striking interspecific plum-apricot hybrid prized for its elongated, lime-green fruit blushed with red and its explosive crunch and flavor. The firm, crisp flesh is exceptionally sweet with a lively tart finish, making it a standout for fresh eating, fruit trays, or desserts. Known for holding its firmness and flavor for weeks on the tree without losing quality, Flavor Grenade is one of the longest-hanging Pluots®, providing an extended harvest season. Grafted onto Citation rootstock, this tree combines moderate vigor, soil adaptability, and excellent productivity, making it ideal for home orchards.
Growing Semi Dwarf Flavor Grenade Pluot Tree on Citation
Light: Requires full sun for best fruit coloration, sweetness, and yields.
Soil: Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil; amend with compost or organic material to boost growth and nutrient availability.
Water: Provide deep and consistent watering during the growing season, particularly in hot or dry spells. Reduce once harvest is complete.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced orchard fertilizer in early spring and midsummer to ensure steady growth and high-quality fruit production.
Pollination: Not self-fertile; needs a compatible Japanese plum or Pluot® such as Dapple Dandy or Santa Rosa for reliable fruit set.
Maintenance: Prune in late winter to maintain tree structure, improve airflow, and encourage new fruiting wood. Thin developing fruit in summer for better size and sweetness.
Hardiness: Grows best in USDA zones 5–9. Ripens from late summer into early fall, with fruit that can remain on the tree crisp and flavorful for an extended harvest window.
