Aloe Brevifolia | ‘Short Leaf Aloe’
Bring unique texture and charm to your home or garden with Aloe brevifolia, also known as “Short Leaf Aloe.” This one-gallon size succulent forms tight rosettes of thick, triangular blue-green leaves lined with soft, tooth-like edges. When grown in full sun or under stress, the foliage takes on vibrant shades of orange to reddish-pink, adding seasonal interest. In late spring to early summer, mature plants produce tall stalks topped with clusters of tubular orange-red flowers—highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Tough, drought-tolerant, and low-maintenance, this aloe is a perfect pick for rock gardens, borders, containers, or xeriscaping.
Growing Short Leaf Aloe
-
Plant in full sun to partial shade for best color; at least 4–6 hours of direct light daily promotes vibrant foliage and healthy blooms.
-
Use fast-draining soil such as cactus mix or sandy loam to avoid root rot.
-
Water deeply but infrequently—allow soil to dry completely between waterings. This aloe thrives on minimal irrigation.
-
Prune sparingly, removing only old or damaged leaves to maintain the plant’s compact rosette form.
-
Hardy in USDA zones 9–11. Protect from frost; in cooler climates, grow in containers that can be moved indoors during winter.
Shipping Info
The plant will be approximately 10-12 inches tall with fully developed roots, grown in two-gallon containers. Shipped bare root (without pot) with roots and surrounding soil lightly moistened and wrapped in plastic to ensure safe transit. Ready to plant immediately upon arrival.
