Princess Nadia Bugleweed | Ajuga tenorei ‘Princess Nadia’ | Bugleweed ‘Princess Nadia’ | Ajuga ‘Princess Nadia’

Ajuga reptans 'Princess Nadia' Bugleweed is a spectacular, low-growing evergreen groundcover prized for its incredibly vibrant, multi-colored foliage that emerges with bright pink and rosy-purple edges before maturing to a striking blend of cream and grayish-green. This exceptional, less invasive selection from the Ajuga family is known for its tight, compact habit, excellent shade tolerance, and the striking spikes of royal blue flowers that rise above the colorful rosettes in mid to late spring. Its nectar-rich blossoms draw early-season butterflies and bees, making it a standout choice for woodland gardens, shady borders, rockeries, landscape edging, and mixed patio containers. With its tidy form and reliable performance in low-light conditions, Princess Nadia offers dynamic, year-round color and rich texture with minimal maintenance.

Growing Princess Nadia Bugleweed

Light: Partial shade to full shade; thrives in dappled morning sunlight but requires protection from harsh, direct afternoon sun to prevent the delicate variegated foliage from scorching.

Soil: Moist, well-drained soil; highly adaptable but performs best in organically rich mixtures and will not tolerate soggy, poorly drained winter conditions.

Water: Moderate; water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during extreme heat or dry spells, but avoid waterlogging the roots.

Maintenance: Low maintenance. Removing spent flower spikes after they fade promotes a tidier appearance and highlights the colorful foliage. The plant slowly spreads via short runners to form a dense mat.

Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators; highly resistant to deer and rabbits.

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 4–9.
