Calendula, commonly known as Pot Marigold, is a bright, easy-to-grow annual (or short-lived perennial in warmer climates) prized for its profusion of daisy‑like, cheerful yellow and deep orange blooms. This classic garden favorite is known for its aromatic foliage, soothing herbal properties, and continuous flowering, particularly in the cooler temperatures of spring and fall. Its nectar‑rich, edible blossoms draw bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects, making it a standout choice for pollinator gardens, borders, cottage gardens, and mixed containers. With its tidy, mounding habit and reliable performance, Calendula offers vibrant color and traditional charm with minimal maintenance.

Growing Calendula

Light: Full sun to partial shade; thrives in bright sunlight but appreciates some afternoon shade in regions with extremely hot summers.

Soil: Well‑drained, average soil; highly adaptable and tolerates poor soils, though it performs best with some organic matter.

Water: Moderate; water regularly until established, then provide even moisture, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings.

Maintenance: Deadheading spent flowers regularly is highly recommended to encourage a continuous flush of blooms. Plants may slow down during intense summer heat but typically revive and bloom again as temperatures cool in autumn.

Wildlife: Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators; deer‑resistant due to its aromatic leaves.

Hardiness: Grown as a fast‑growing annual in most zones; can perform as a short‑lived perennial in USDA zones 9–11.

I was very impressed with how well my 18 little lantanas were packed. All looked healthy and I planted them yesterday. It was a little difficult unpacking them but that’s the price I paid for having you pack them so well. I was a little worried when I saw UPS coming to the door with the box slung over the driver’s shoulder despite the fact that the box was marked with an ⬆️ and it said live plants. But all is well. Now if I can just keep them alive.
