Star Cluster Coreopsis | Coreopsis ‘Star Cluster’ | Star Cluster Tickseed | Coreopsis ‘Big Bang Star Cluster

Star Cluster Coreopsis is a stunning, sun-loving herbaceous perennial prized for its spectacular, continuous profusion of exceptionally large, creamy-white, daisy-like flowers that feature bright golden centers. As the weather cools in late summer and fall, this dynamic, heat-tolerant selection puts on an extraordinary show as a striking, deep burgundy-purple starburst pattern emerges around the center eye of each bloom. It is known for its sturdy, bushy habit and vibrant green foliage that remains clean and disease-free throughout the sweltering summer. Its nectar-rich blossoms are an absolute magnet for butterflies and bees, making it a spectacular, low-maintenance thriller for sunny landscape borders, rock gardens, and mixed patio containers. With its ever-changing, elegant color and reliable performance through challenging conditions, Star Cluster offers an extraordinary display of bright summer-to-fall blooms with exceptionally straightforward care.

Growing Star Cluster Coreopsis

Light: Full sun; thrives in bright, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) to produce the most abundant blooms, the strongest stems, and maintain a tight, compact form. Too much shade will cause the stems to become leggy and flop.

Soil: Light, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to poor, sandy, or rocky soils as long as drainage is excellent. It is extremely susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged clay, especially during the cold, wet winter months.

Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then allow the top few inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once mature and strongly dislikes consistently wet feet.

Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Deadhead spent flowers or lightly shear the entire plant back by about one-third in mid-summer after the first massive flush of blooms fades to encourage a continuous, prolific second flush of flowers and that signature burgundy eye well into the fall.

Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators; naturally deer- and rabbit-resistant.

Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 5–9; exceptionally cold-hardy and reliable across a wide range of climates provided it has excellent winter drainage.
