Ruby Frost Coreopsis | Coreopsis ‘Ruby Frost’ | Tickseed ‘Ruby Frost’ | Ruby Frost Tickseed
Ruby Frost Coreopsis is a striking, heat-loving herbaceous perennial prized for its spectacular, continuous profusion of large, daisy-like blooms that feature a deep, velvety ruby-red center beautifully contrasted by a distinct, frosty white border. This vigorous, compact selection is known for its remarkable disease resistance and its tidy, mounding habit that thrives in the intense summer heat without flopping. Its nectar-rich blossoms are an absolute magnet for butterflies and bees, making it a spectacular, low-maintenance thriller and edger for sunny landscape borders, rock gardens, and mixed patio containers. With its bold, dramatic bicolor contrast and reliable performance through challenging conditions, Ruby Frost offers an extraordinary, non-stop display of vibrant blooms from early summer well into fall with exceptionally straightforward care.
Growing Ruby Frost Coreopsis
Light: Full sun; thrives in bright, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) to produce the most abundant blooms, the strongest stems, and maintain a tight, compact form.
Soil: Light, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to poor, sandy, or rocky soils as long as drainage is adequate. It performs best in average soils and can struggle or become floppy in overly rich, wet, or heavy clay soils.
Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then allow the top few inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once mature and strongly dislikes consistently wet feet.
Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage a continuous, prolific flush of new blooms throughout the season. A light mid-summer shearing can rejuvenate the foliage and prompt a heavy late-season bloom.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators; naturally deer- and rabbit-resistant.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 6–9; exceptionally reliable across a wide range of climates provided it has excellent winter drainage.
