Cucumis melo Earli-Dew Melon is a high-yielding, extra-early hybrid honeydew prized for its reliability in short growing seasons and cooler climates. Growing on vigorous vines that can spread 4 to 6 feet, this variety produces heavy crops of round, 5-to-6-inch fruit weighing between 2.5 and 3 pounds. While standard honeydews require long, hot summers to sweeten, Earli-Dew matures quickly (approx. 75 to 80 days), delivering smooth-skinned fruit with lime-green flesh that is incredibly sweet, tender, and aromatic.
Culinary and Practical Uses
- The tender, lime-green flesh is exceptionally sweet and juicy, making it a perfect choice for fresh fruit salads, sorbets, and chilled summer soups.
- Excellent for breakfast or dessert when sliced in half and served simply with a squeeze of lime or a drizzle of honey.
- Pairs beautifully with savory ingredients; try wrapping wedges in prosciutto or tossing cubes with feta, mint, and balsamic glaze for a refreshing appetizer.
Characteristics
- Foliage: Large, lobed green leaves on sprawling vines that provide canopy cover to protect the developing fruit from sunscald.
- Growth Habit: Spreading, vining habit that requires ample space to run or a strong trellis for vertical support; ideal for maximizing yield in northern gardens.
- Flowers: Produces bright yellow, bell-shaped blossoms; plants are monoecious (bearing both male and female flowers) and rely on pollinators for fruit set.
- Seeds: Concentrated in a small central cavity, making the fruit easy to clean; the seeds are beige and flat, typical of muskmelons.
Growing Requirements
- Sun: Requires full sun to maximize sugar content; ensure at least 6 to 8 hours of direct, unobstructed sunlight daily.
- Soil: Thrives in rich, well-draining, loamy soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8; warming the soil with black plastic mulch can accelerate growth.
- Water: Needs consistent, deep watering during vine development and fruit set; reduce watering as fruit approaches maturity to concentrate flavors and prevent splitting.
- Spacing: Plant seeds or transplants 24 to 36 inches apart in rows spaced 4 to 6 feet apart to allow for vigorous vine spread.
-
Maintenance: Protect young plants from cucumber beetles; harvest when the smooth, greenish-gold rind feels waxy and the blossom end softens slightly (honeydews do not "slip" from the vine like cantaloupes and must be cut).

Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.7 / 5 from 497 reviews.
I am so very impressed with this company! I had bought one of the mini banana trees first, which started dying right after I got it. After contacting the company, they agreed to give me a credit, with which I bought these two honeysuckle plants. Please excuse the weeds & bad fencing. Hopefully these little plants will grow up & cover the fence. I will be working on weeding and continuing to build a flower bed at the base of the fence. Thank you Blossomdale! I look forward to buying more plants in the future.

The fig trees arrived today in small pots very well packed. I removed them and watered them. I will let them "rest" for 4 to 5 days before I repot them and prepare them for winter, inside. Very pleased with these trees. After getting other sellers rotten packing jobs this was a real treat. I may buy more in the spring of 2027.
Store owner replied: Thank you for your kind review, Donald! We're delighted your fig trees arrived well-packed and in good condition. We appreciate your support and hope they thrive through the winter! :)
Packed so well! I was surprised how many flowers my orange ones had! Will definitely buy from them again! My original ordered flowers were out of stock and I received an email about replacements. I love them!

Store owner replied: Thank you for your feedback, Rosetta! We're glad to hear your plant arrived healthy and beautiful. We appreciate your feedback about the size and hope your plant grows and flourishes! 😊
I was very impressed with how well my 18 little lantanas were packed. All looked healthy and I planted them yesterday. It was a little difficult unpacking them but that’s the price I paid for having you pack them so well. I was a little worried when I saw UPS coming to the door with the box slung over the driver’s shoulder despite the fact that the box was marked with an ⬆️ and it said live plants. But all is well. Now if I can just keep them alive.
Store owner replied: Thank you for your review, Beth! We're glad your plant arrived quickly and is doing much better. We appreciate you choosing Blossomdale! 😊
Lovely little guy-- impossible to find coral honeysuckle at my local nursery for whatever reason. I really appreciate that the Blossomdale staff kept it and nurtured it a little longer so it would be more robust for the trip. Can't wait to put it in the ground and watch it thrive :-) Will order from them again.
The mahoi double banana tree delivered on time, perfectly protected from shipping damage, and ready to plant. Love my new banana tree!
It was my very first plant I order online so I wasn’t sure what to expect but when it got here and in one piece and as long as it is I was shocked but very HAPPY.
It's doing really well. I will be transferring it to a bigger pot probably by the weekend. I wish I had a little more instructions on how to care for this variety, and what to do in the fall.
Plants arrived fine.. got them planted. Now i will let you know next spring. If they survive and grow back.. So far, i am ok with them
Erigeron Karvinskianus Fleabane ‘Santa Barbara/Mexican Daisy'
Just waiting for when they get big and tall and start producing bananas.
Plant arrived quickly and came in good shape!
Package came delivered just like it said it would I pulled it out it looked good. I put it in some water for about a half hour and put it in my 30 gallon tub and I got three things to go with it.
Banana tree came nice and healthy and ready to go!

Haven’t transplanted yet, but it’s a beautiful plant. We are gifting it to a friend that moved…Friendship Plant is very appropriate!
I love it
Truly tiny is still tiny but healthy!
It seems to be doing well but could have been packed better.
Blossom Dale did a wonderful job with packaging and Sedum Autumn Joy plants arrived in great condition and are thriving. So far so good.
The milkweed is not doing well...
Very healthy cutting. Followed the instructions and let it get acclimated to its new surroundings for a couple of weeks before repotting. Would not hesitate to purchase from this business again 😃
Plants arrived in great condition. This plant has only been in the ground about 10 days and is growing a lot. The plant cage is 12” tall so it’s doing well. I put guards around my new plants for a little while because I have bunnies who love tender young leaves.
Got this for my wife’s birthday. Plan to pot it soon.
I got 2 mystery plants (one indoor and one outdoor). The indoor was a pilea and the outdoor plant was a white blackberry. White blackberry was dramatic, but it’s making a comeback and the pilea is doing great!
Came in well packed and the plant was alive and healthy!
Even though the newest leaf was broken off it seems to be doing well
My little banana arrived happy and healthy!
The plant arrived well packaged with instructions on how to get started. It had been doing really well and has been growing like a weed!
It is just putting roots down now.
Received in great condition, transplanted just before heavy rain and its thriving
Just a little shock put her in a fabric pot on the back porch full sun should be happy thank you for the lovely plant
Fair price good looking plant can’t wait for it to get bigger!
