Purity Candytuft | Iberis sempervirens ‘Purity’ | Evergreen Candytuft ‘Purity’ | Iberis ‘Purity’
Iberis sempervirens ‘Purity’ is a compact, evergreen perennial prized for its profusion of brilliant, pure white flower clusters that beautifully blanket its dark green foliage in early to mid-spring. This vigorous selection is known for its low‑growing, spreading habit, excellent drought tolerance, and outstanding performance as a reliable groundcover. Its nectar‑rich blossoms draw butterflies and bees, making it a standout choice for rock gardens, border edging, cascading over retaining walls, and sunny landscape beds. With its robust, mounded form and reliable cold tolerance, Purity offers a dazzling carpet of crisp spring color with minimal maintenance.
Growing Iberis sempervirens ‘Purity’
Light: Full sun to partial shade; thrives and produces the most abundant, dense blooms with strong, direct sunlight, though it appreciates some afternoon shade in the hottest climates.
Soil: Well‑drained soil of any texture; requires excellent drainage, as it is highly susceptible to crown rot in soggy or heavy clay soils.
Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then highly drought‑tolerant. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
Maintenance: Shear back lightly by about one-third immediately after flowering to maintain a tidy, compact shape and encourage dense new foliage growth. Avoid pruning in the fall to ensure spring blooms.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies and bees; generally deer‑ and rabbit‑resistant.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 3–9; retains its dark green foliage year-round in most climates.
