Mandarin Cosmos | Cosmos sulphureus ‘Mandarin’ | Sulphur Cosmos ‘Mandarin’ | Cosmos ‘Mandarin’

Mandarin Cosmos is a radiant, heat-loving annual prized for its dazzling profusion of vibrant, double to semi-double tangerine-orange blooms that seemingly float above delicate, fern-like foliage. This compact, vigorous selection is known for its exceptional drought tolerance and nonstop flowering from early summer until the first frost. Its nectar-rich blossoms draw a constant parade of butterflies and bees, making it a standout choice for pollinator gardens, sunny borders, meadow-style plantings, and mixed patio containers. With its robust form and reliable performance in hot, dry conditions, Mandarin Cosmos offers bold, fiery color and effortless, airy texture with minimal maintenance.

Growing Mandarin Cosmos

Light: Full sun; thrives in bright, direct sunlight to produce the most abundant blooms and strong, sturdy stems.

Soil: Well-drained, average to poor soil; highly adaptable, but avoid overly rich or heavily fertilized soils, which will encourage lush green foliage at the expense of its brilliant flowers.

Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then allow the soil to dry out between waterings. It is highly drought-tolerant once mature.

Maintenance: Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage a continuous, prolific flush of new flowers throughout the summer and maintain a tidy appearance. Leave a few flowers on the plant at the end of the season if you wish for them to drop seed for the following year.

Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators; birds enjoy foraging for late-season seeds. Generally deer-resistant.

Hardiness: Grown as a fast-growing summer annual in all USDA zones.
