Yoder Mum | Chrysanthemum x morifolium | Yoder Garden Mum | Hardy Fall Mum
Yoder Mum is a stunning, sun-loving herbaceous perennial prized for its spectacular, continuous profusion of vibrant, densely packed flowers that completely cover the plant in late summer and throughout the fall season. Bred for superior garden performance, this exceptionally tough selection is known for its remarkable, genetically compact habit that naturally forms a perfect, spherical mound of lush green foliage and brilliant color without the need for excessive pinching. Its nectar-rich blossoms are an absolute magnet for late-season butterflies and bees, making it a spectacular, low-maintenance thriller for sunny landscape borders, festive autumn displays, and mixed patio containers. With its bold, warm-toned colors and reliable performance through cooling weather, the Yoder Mum offers an extraordinary display of late-season blooms with exceptionally straightforward care.
Growing Yoder Mum
Light: Full sun; thrives in bright, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) to produce the most abundant blooms, the strongest stems, and maintain a tight, perfectly rounded form. Too much shade will cause the plant to become leggy and significantly reduce flowering.
Soil: Rich, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to average soils as long as drainage is excellent. It is extremely susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged clay, especially during the cold, wet winter months.
Water: Moderate; water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during active summer growth and fall bud formation. It strongly dislikes wilting, but allow the very top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Water at the base to keep foliage dry and prevent disease.
Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. While naturally heavily branched, a light pinching in early summer can encourage an even denser globe. Leave the dead foliage standing through winter to help insulate and protect the crown, then prune the plant hard (cutting back to the ground) in early spring just before new basal growth emerges.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to bees and butterflies seeking crucial late-season nectar; naturally deer- and rabbit-resistant due to its aromatic foliage.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 5–9; widely grown as a spectacular, fast-growing seasonal annual for instant autumn color in all regions.
