Emerald Cushion Blue Creeping Phlox is a charming, sun-worshipping semi-evergreen perennial groundcover prized for its spectacular, dense profusion of delicate, star-shaped pale lavender-blue flowers that completely blanket the plant in early to mid-spring. This exceptionally tough, cold-hardy selection is known for its low-growing, mat-forming habit and fine, needle-like green foliage that provides beautiful, mossy texture to the landscape even when not in bloom. Its nectar-rich blossoms are a vital early-season food source and an absolute magnet for butterflies and bees, making it a spectacular, low-maintenance spiller and cascading edger for rock gardens, retaining walls, sloping banks, and sunny landscape borders. With its soft, cool-toned color and reliable performance through challenging conditions, Emerald Cushion Blue offers an extraordinary display of vibrant spring blooms and year-round structure with exceptionally straightforward care.
Growing Emerald Cushion Blue Creeping Phlox
Light: Full sun; thrives in intense, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) which is absolutely required to produce the most abundant, dense carpet of blooms and maintain a tight, sturdy spreading form.
Soil: Light, sandy, or gravelly, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to poor, rocky soils as long as drainage is excellent. It is extremely susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged clay or overly rich, wet potting mixes.
Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then allow the top few inches of soil to dry out between waterings. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once mature and strongly dislikes consistently wet feet.
Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Shear the foliage back lightly (about one-third to one-half) immediately after the spring blooms fade to encourage dense, lush new growth, prevent the center from dying out, and maintain a neat, compact habit.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to early-season butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators; naturally deer- and rabbit-resistant.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 3–9; exceptionally cold-hardy and reliable across a wide range of climates provided it has excellent winter drainage.

Emerald Cushion Blue Creeping Phlox plants are shipped as healthy young starts in 4" nursery pots. Allow 1–2 weeks after arrival for plants to recover from shipping and resume active growth before repotting or planting outdoors.

Healthy and beautiful! A little smaller than I expected.
I was very impressed with how well my 18 little lantanas were packed. All looked healthy and I planted them yesterday. It was a little difficult unpacking them but that’s the price I paid for having you pack them so well. I was a little worried when I saw UPS coming to the door with the box slung over the driver’s shoulder despite the fact that the box was marked with an ⬆️ and it said live plants. But all is well. Now if I can just keep them alive.
Lovely little guy-- impossible to find coral honeysuckle at my local nursery for whatever reason. I really appreciate that the Blossomdale staff kept it and nurtured it a little longer so it would be more robust for the trip. Can't wait to put it in the ground and watch it thrive :-) Will order from them again.

It was my very first plant I order online so I wasn’t sure what to expect but when it got here and in one piece and as long as it is I was shocked but very HAPPY.
It's doing really well. I will be transferring it to a bigger pot probably by the weekend. I wish I had a little more instructions on how to care for this variety, and what to do in the fall.
Plants arrived fine.. got them planted. Now i will let you know next spring. If they survive and grow back.. So far, i am ok with them

Package came delivered just like it said it would I pulled it out it looked good. I put it in some water for about a half hour and put it in my 30 gallon tub and I got three things to go with it.

Plants arrived in great condition. This plant has only been in the ground about 10 days and is growing a lot. The plant cage is 12” tall so it’s doing well. I put guards around my new plants for a little while because I have bunnies who love tender young leaves.

I got 2 mystery plants (one indoor and one outdoor). The indoor was a pilea and the outdoor plant was a white blackberry. White blackberry was dramatic, but it’s making a comeback and the pilea is doing great!

Need to upgrade your packaging. I would suggest taping the plant in place in the cardboard tube on the count that it slid and smashed itself. Luckily, it's a strong plant and should recover. Hoping.for the best.

The plant arrived after a few delivery reroutes. It came with three leaves two so far are healthy one was dying and has since died. The two remaining leaves appear to be doing well.
