Monstera adansonii, commonly known as the Swiss Cheese Vine or Swiss Cheese Plant, is an eye-catching tropical climbing perennial treasured for its lush, deep green leaves decorated with distinctive natural oval openings called fenestrations. Unlike the broad, split-edged leaves of Monstera deliciosa, this captivating species develops elongated, heart-shaped foliage with elegant holes throughout the leaf blades, creating a light, airy appearance that adds instant jungle-inspired charm to any indoor space. Its vigorous, vining stems can be trained to climb a moss pole or trellis for larger, more mature foliage, or allowed to cascade gracefully from hanging baskets and shelves. Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, Monstera adansonii thrives in warm temperatures, bright indirect light, and moderate to high humidity. Its remarkable foliage, versatile growth habit, and easygoing tropical appeal make it a beautiful choice for houseplant enthusiasts, indoor plant displays, and lush container arrangements.
Growing Monstera adansonii
Light: Bright, indirect light; thrives near an east-facing window or in filtered light near a brighter window. Avoid intense direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the foliage. Low light may slow growth and produce smaller leaves with fewer fenestrations.
Soil: Rich, loose, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing excess water to escape. An airy aroid blend containing quality potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark helps support healthy roots and prevents waterlogging.
Water: Moderate; water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry, then allow excess water to drain freely. Keep soil lightly moist during active growth without leaving the plant standing in water. Reduce watering during cooler, slower-growing months. Moderate to high humidity encourages attractive foliage and helps prevent crispy leaf edges.
Maintenance: Relatively easy to care for with consistent warmth and light. Provide a moss pole, trellis, or other support for climbing growth, or prune trailing vines to maintain a fuller, bushier shape. Remove yellowing or damaged leaves as needed, rotate the pot for balanced growth, and fertilize lightly during spring and summer. Protect from cold drafts and inspect periodically for common houseplant pests.
Wildlife: Primarily cultivated as an indoor ornamental. Like other monsteras, this plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if chewed or ingested. Keep out of reach of curious pets and children.
Hardiness: Tropical perennial suitable for outdoor cultivation in USDA zones 10–12 in sheltered, frost-free locations. Widely grown as a houseplant in cooler regions. Prefers temperatures of approximately 65–85°F and should be protected from temperatures below 55°F and all frost.

I am so very impressed with this company! I had bought one of the mini banana trees first, which started dying right after I got it. After contacting the company, they agreed to give me a credit, with which I bought these two honeysuckle plants. Please excuse the weeds & bad fencing. Hopefully these little plants will grow up & cover the fence. I will be working on weeding and continuing to build a flower bed at the base of the fence. Thank you Blossomdale! I look forward to buying more plants in the future.

The fig trees arrived today in small pots very well packed. I removed them and watered them. I will let them "rest" for 4 to 5 days before I repot them and prepare them for winter, inside. Very pleased with these trees. After getting other sellers rotten packing jobs this was a real treat. I may buy more in the spring of 2027.

I was very impressed with how well my 18 little lantanas were packed. All looked healthy and I planted them yesterday. It was a little difficult unpacking them but that’s the price I paid for having you pack them so well. I was a little worried when I saw UPS coming to the door with the box slung over the driver’s shoulder despite the fact that the box was marked with an ⬆️ and it said live plants. But all is well. Now if I can just keep them alive.

Thank you for your review, Beth! We're glad your plant arrived quickly and is doing much better. We appreciate you choosing Blossomdale! 😊
Lovely little guy-- impossible to find coral honeysuckle at my local nursery for whatever reason. I really appreciate that the Blossomdale staff kept it and nurtured it a little longer so it would be more robust for the trip. Can't wait to put it in the ground and watch it thrive :-) Will order from them again.
It was my very first plant I order online so I wasn’t sure what to expect but when it got here and in one piece and as long as it is I was shocked but very HAPPY.
It's doing really well. I will be transferring it to a bigger pot probably by the weekend. I wish I had a little more instructions on how to care for this variety, and what to do in the fall.
Package came delivered just like it said it would I pulled it out it looked good. I put it in some water for about a half hour and put it in my 30 gallon tub and I got three things to go with it.
Very healthy cutting. Followed the instructions and let it get acclimated to its new surroundings for a couple of weeks before repotting. Would not hesitate to purchase from this business again 😃
Plants arrived in great condition. This plant has only been in the ground about 10 days and is growing a lot. The plant cage is 12” tall so it’s doing well. I put guards around my new plants for a little while because I have bunnies who love tender young leaves.
I got 2 mystery plants (one indoor and one outdoor). The indoor was a pilea and the outdoor plant was a white blackberry. White blackberry was dramatic, but it’s making a comeback and the pilea is doing great!
Need to upgrade your packaging. I would suggest taping the plant in place in the cardboard tube on the count that it slid and smashed itself. Luckily, it's a strong plant and should recover. Hoping.for the best.
