Moonbeam Coreopsis | Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’ | Moonbeam Threadleaf Tickseed | Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’
Moonbeam Coreopsis is a classic, sun-loving herbaceous perennial prized for its spectacular, continuous profusion of delicate, pale creamy-yellow, daisy-like flowers that seemingly float above neat, airy mounds of finely cut, thread-like green foliage. This exceptionally tough, heat-tolerant selection is known for its remarkably long bloom time, often producing flowers from early summer all the way until the first frost. Its nectar-rich blossoms are an absolute magnet for butterflies and bees, making it a spectacular, low-maintenance thriller and edger for sunny landscape borders, rock gardens, and mixed patio containers. With its soft, luminous color and reliable performance through challenging conditions, Moonbeam offers an extraordinary display of bright blooms and fine, airy texture with exceptionally straightforward care.
Growing Moonbeam Coreopsis
Light: Full sun; thrives in bright, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours per day) to produce the most abundant blooms, the strongest stems, and maintain a tight, compact form. Too much shade will cause the stems to become leggy and flop.
Soil: Light, sandy, or gravelly, well-drained soil; highly adaptable to poor or rocky soils as long as drainage is excellent. It is extremely susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged clay, especially during the cold, wet winter months.
Water: Low to moderate; water regularly until established, then allow the top few inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once mature and strongly dislikes consistently wet feet.
Maintenance: Exceptionally low maintenance. Lightly shear the entire plant back by about one-third in mid-summer after the first massive flush of blooms fades; this prevents the plant from becoming unwieldy and encourages a continuous, prolific second flush of flowers well into the fall.
Wildlife: Highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators; naturally deer- and rabbit-resistant.
Hardiness: Perennial in USDA zones 3–9; exceptionally cold-hardy and reliable across a wide range of climates provided it has excellent winter drainage.
